I don't understand how anyone can record from a crappy mixer or something.

MOTU, Apollo, Apogee, Steinberg, RME, I'll decide based on finances when the time comes. If you can't make great music with a fast computer and a nice sounding interface, there's absolutely no need to spend thousands more on a hobby.Р”В«efore I get anymore hardware synths (Moog Matriarch, UDO Super 6) I'm going to grab one of the higher end interfaces. I want to have the most solid foundation for recording I can. Once I get the computer built, I have my Roland SE-02 (I didn't sell it because I like Roland and $250 is cheap AF for the phat ladder filter sound and a really nice sequencer and other features, small foot print, etc.) and a PreSonus Studio 18|24 which uses class A XMAC preamps I think, and really isn't bad but. That's right, I built this bad boy 10 years ago using an i7 overclocked to 3.4GHz and average liquid cooling and this thing has not had a single failure, however I'm getting bogged down by lack of power, so I just ordered an i9 and a Thunderbolt card, and the rest of the components for a new build. I sold all of my synth gear except my Roland SE-02 about a month ago, and I am building my first computer in over 10 years.

I didn't realize there would be such a gap in so-called professional devices. Though my hearing isn't very good I notice a difference in sound quality between my laptop and blu-ray player player but they are both lo-fi consumer devices. So I guess it represents what is thought to be normal. I haven't heard many bad things about K-Mix's converters. I got it mainly because it was DC-coupled and it had lots of useful inputs/outputs. I didn't have any expectation for the audio quality when I got an interface from the Motu Avb series. I just don't get it why people repeat like a mantra that 'all audio converters on the market are as high quality, you just imagine the difference'. It doesn't sound like half of the sound gets lost on the way.Р”В®xcuse me if this sounds like an advertisement. Now I'm forced to remix all my old mixes!Р”Р‡inally my new recordings sound as-good-as-when-playing-live when played back. The bad thing about it is that my previous mixes sound like vomit. It sounded like I had suddenly ultra detailed high-end speakers (I just have normal near-field monitors). Wow! Already the difference in the DA quality is like night and day.

For example when I uploaded a file into Soundcloud the streamable MP3 sounded often very muddy (compared to the wav-file).Р”Р‡inally I got a audio interface from the Motu AVB-series. I had weird problems when I tried to translate my files into other platforms or played them with different audio systems. Previously I had a high quality PCI-soundcard (ESI Julia) but that was ages ago. Btw K-Mix was my first audio interface so I didn't really have anything to compare it to. I just thought that it's because the recordings are missing some decibels. Whenever I recorded my modular synth the resulting audio never sounded nearly as good as when I played live. I wasn't ever happy with my K-Mix audio interface.
